I moved into the hilly neighborhood of Devonshire Canyon at the beginning of our Soph year. Randy Whestphal lived 3 doors down and the Fassetts lived behind and across the field from her. Not too many houses around so we went on lots of hikes in the hills. I think we called them marches though.
Omigosh, Maggie, we dressed up in coveralls and bits and pieces of military uniforms and marched up and down Dolton. My grandmother taught me how to swear in German (mild by today's standards) and we stopped cars and demanded passwords to go through the German lines. We were a true ragtag army. Hal and his sister Helaine joined us in this lunacy.
Hal was a sweetheart. He was a close friend (I had a crush on him for years) and he basically taught me to drive. One of my favorite memories is of Hal standing knee deep in mud in my backyard, swaying back and forth and singing, "Have a Commander, welcome aboard".
Dina-Jane Wightman (Cotton)
We had the same threapists
RIP
Hal
Elaine Gluck (Balesteri)
I remember Hal in High School. He was a really nice guy and we did date a few times. So sad to hear of his passing. RIP Hal.
