Pam was my best friend when I was in second grade.  I met her just after her family had moved to San Carlos from Ohio.  She was sitting on the driveway with ther Tiny Tears doll playing with her sister Diane.   She still had that doll years later in her study.

We went to Jalapa, Mexico to study Spanish along with Val Coie, Kathy Poole, Sue Steiner and Bonnie Stone when we were 16.  That was a fantastic, life changing experience.  Talk about culture shock, being surrounded by people who did not speak English and had a totally different culture.  We were very popular with the Mexican boys since we did not have to take chaperones with us on dates.  This was a big boost in our confidence after being unsure of ourselves at Carlmont. We could smoke in classs and drink on dates.  Thank you, Mr Deegan and Mr Marks for teaching me Spanish.  I had never expected it to lead to tequilla, tobacco and romance.  I learned so much from living with a Mexican family and seeing the world through their eyes.  I made sure my two daughters had a live abroad experiece too.
